KENYA & U.S.: COLLAGE ART: VINCENT BORDEAUX

Vincent Bordeaux is the namesake of artist Denis Mwaura—a Kenyan bred, U.S. resident. He started collaging while learning about the history of World War I and II. He says, "I listened to Charlie Chaplin’s speech in the film, The Dictator. I found it to be incredibly inspiring and I was influenced to create my first collage about the horrendous psychological effects of war ‘to be the eyes, and ears, and conscience of the creator of the universe.’” Mwaura’s subjects surpass war to include themes of censorship, beauty, and humanity while reflecting his dual cultural identity.
