INDIA: CRAFT & DESIGN: SHANTANU SUMAN

If you’ve had the opportunity to visit India, you would have most likely noticed the decorative trucks with their elaborate ‘Horn Ok Please’ designs painted on the back. It’s customary in the country to honk to let someone know you are passing them in traffic, and the horns themselves have also become decorative symbols. There are now multiple pitched sounds and pre-recorded sounds, some sounding like musical instruments to be gentler and kinder. MFA student Shantanu Suman was inspired by his observations to create a detailed display of painted interactive ‘Horn Please’ boxes and a documentary film Horn Please delving into the truck art of India.
